Does Medicare cover me outside of the USA?

Following is a topic that may be of interest to you:

Does Medicare cover me outside of the USA?

• Coverage only applies if a foreign hospital is closer than the nearest U.S. hospital.
• Medicare Part A covers inpatient hospital care (if you have been formally admitted with a doctor’s order to the foreign hospital as an inpatient).
• Medicare Part B covers emergency ambulance and doctor services you get immediately before and during your covered foreign inpatient hospital stay. There is no coverage for services after your hospital stay ends.
• Medicare drug plans can’t cover drugs you buy outside the U.S.
• While on a cruise ship, Medicare may cover medically necessary health care services if docked in a U.S. port or no more than 6 hours away from a U.S. port.
• In most cases, you pay the full cost to the health care provider, then submit an itemized bill to your insurance company.

Most supplement plans have coverage while outside of the U.S.
